CHARLOTTE, N.C.–Police are on high alert gathering evidence and searching for clues inside and outside the South Charlotte home of Ina Feldman. Neighbors say her son discovered the 82-year-old’s body on Torrey Pines Court Wednesday morning. “It was a surprise, certainly. I mean you’d think there was a riot going on or something,” said neighbor Bruce Bayles.
Police say Feldman’s family is cooperating with their homicide investigation. And investigators aren’t saying how long she had been dead before she was discovered. “It’s upsetting to see equipment like this, and trucks in your neighborhood,” said neighbor Maureen Murphy.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions, and police remain tight-lipped. They aren’t revealing Feldman’s injuries, the status of a murder weapon, or any sign of forced entry. While it’s still unclear when Feldman was last seen, police are hoping for help from anyone that might have more information.
“I look to this as a puzzle. There may have a small piece of the puzzle that may seem insignificant at the time, but may factor into the investigation in significant way,” said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept. Lt. Travis Pardue.
Neighbors say they aren’t fearful or worried about their safety as police investigate the murder. CMPD says crimes like this one are extremely unusual in their neighborhood. “Normally we’re used to the ambulances and fire trucks. All these police cars. Something’s up,” said South Charlotte resident and neighbor Sheldon Lang.
