CHARLOTTE, NC– Rock Hill, SC residents are navigating through the winter weather. Some are preparing for Wednesday’s massive snowfall by stocking up on food, shovels, and other supplies. But others, like 9-year-old Destini McGriff and her family, are just trying to enjoy the winter blast. They’re spending Tuesday afternoon building a snowman; a first for Destini. “I’m building a snowman! And I’m just going to be creative,” says McGriff, “.. I’m having fun!”
But “fun” is not a term Rock Hill resident Quietta Bowden would use to describe this wintery weather. “Pretty, yes,” she says, “but not fun. I like to see this once, maybe twice a year, but after this, hopefully we won’t have much more inclement weather,” says Bowden.
Bowden works in Charlotte and dreads to the slow, slippery commute from her home in Rock Hill. Her goal Tuesday night: to prepare for round three forecasted for Wednesday–a storm that’s expected to pack a serious punch, dumping even more snow and ice. “It’s mother nature at her worst, and one accident, I think, could back up the entire interstate,” says Bowden.
Due to the winter storm, Governor Nikki Haley has declared a state of emergency for South Carolina.
