Charlotte Neighborhood Braves the Storm for Some Winter Fun

Some of us stayed hunkered down inside on Wednesday, trying to stay warm and out of the elements.  But for many, it was a play day!  Families used the time away from work and school to play in the snow and bond with others in their community.

With the threat of deep snow, freezing rain, and possible power outages, residents from Plaza Midwood still enjoyed frolicking in the snow, especially with a hill ideal for sledding right across the street.

“It’s amazing!” said Plaza Midwood resident Melody Hogan.  “Even when we don’t get out, we can stand inside our picture window and just watch the Norman Rockwell painting.”

Roads were slick, but there were plenty from the close-knit community who were happy to play together.

“Everyone from the neighborhood is here, so we’re having a lot of fun,” said resident Cecilia Presti.

It didn’t matter that it was sleeting–it was all about the winter wonderland fun.  Neighbors used snowboards, clothes hampers–whatever it took to have a good time.  And as the snow continued to fall, it beckoned people to come out and play.

“We waited ’til this time, 3 o’clock, to come out, and there was nobody here,” said Plaza resident Gary Hogan.  “Then all of a sudden there were 100 people here!”

The snow had some potential issues, but in that moment, it brought the community together.

“We lived up north in the University area, but we moved here a couple of years ago,” said Hogan.  “And it’s funny moving into the city to find community like this.  It’s really fun!  We’re loving it!”
