CMS Parents Speaking Out On Social Media About Makeup Days

CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and most other school districts in our area are closed for a third straight day Friday.

The snow days are starting to cut into spring break for kids in Charlotte, and that’s becoming a hot topic.

While students threw snowballs, made snowmen, and rode the slopes in neighborhoods Thursday, there’s a big question on parents minds: when are their kids going to make these snow days up?

“I don’t know what the school system is going to do to please everybody,” said Chris Bishop, a Cotswold resident.

The  2013-2014 CMS calendar lists April 14 and 15 as makeup days, which means, as it stands, spring break is down to three days.

“It stinks, but I think it’s necessary,” said Amy Spears, a South Charlotte resident. But that’s not a popular option.

CMS officials say they’ll consider other options, like Saturday school.

“We’re not going on the weekends. She’ll just stay home. Those are our days!” said Charlotte Ramirez, a South Charlotte resident.

Other options are holding classes on holidays, or extending school days.

“We have three elementary school children, and our days are already longer than most in the state, so I don’t think these kids needs to spend any more time in school than they already are,” said Caroline Biber, a Cotswold resident.
