CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Imagine getting chosen for a one-way trip to Mars! Hard to believe, right?

It could be a reality for one North Carolina student who applied for the Mars One Non-Profit, looking to colonize on the red planet.

The Non-profit started with 200,000 applicants and now that pool is down to just 1,000 people!

NC State student, Charles Parrish, II looks to be among the 24 finalists going on the one-way trip to Mars.

Parrish says if he lives on Mars he will have to develop sustainable technology.

He says he’s doesn’t think the fact that it is a one way trip is frightening, just intimidating when planning the next few years of his life. Parrish also says it’s liberating to think about going to space for the rest of his life.
