CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The crisis between Russian and Ukraine is hitting close to home for Charlotteans of Ukrainian descent.

South Charlotte resident Kathi Matiaszek joins us. She’s been in close contact with her brother who is overseas in Kiev – about 500 miles from Crimea, which is occupied by troops.

Matiaszek says her brother is seeing the effects hundreds of miles away as people protest in the square.

She says only a small amount of Ukrainians want to be a part of Russia and she doesn’t buy Putin’s arguments.

Matiaszek says the need for the support of Ukraine is much needed.
