
CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Β The hunt is on for the driver who hit and killed a woman Thursday night – and then took off. Β It happened around 7:15 PM in the 5500 block of North Tryon Street. Β 51-year-old Margaret Rutledge was crossing near the intersection of Old Concord Road when she was hit. Β That section of N. Tryon Street is not a marked pedestrian crosswalk. Β
The driver of the van that hit Rutledge didn’t stop. Β Police say it was last seen traveling northbound on N. Tryon Street. Β The van veered into the right lane and then onto Old Concord Road and was last seen traveling north toward Orr Road. Β Rutledge was pronounced dead on the scene. Β
The hit-and-run van is a Chevrolet Express and should have damage to the grill and is missing the Chevrolet “bowtie” emblem and black plastic grill cover. Β
