
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The hunt is on for the driver who hit and killed a woman Thursday night – and then took off. It happened around 7:15 PM in the 5500 block of North Tryon Street. 51-year-old Margaret Rutledge was crossing near the intersection of Old Concord Road when she was hit. That section of N. Tryon Street is not a marked pedestrian crosswalk.
The driver of the van that hit Rutledge didn’t stop. Police say it was last seen traveling northbound on N. Tryon Street. The van veered into the right lane and then onto Old Concord Road and was last seen traveling north toward Orr Road. Rutledge was pronounced dead on the scene.
The hit-and-run van is a Chevrolet Express and should have damage to the grill and is missing the Chevrolet “bowtie” emblem and black plastic grill cover.
