CHARLOTTE, NC – Dexter Lattimore’s father made the trip from Greensboro to try and find answers.
“He has two beautiful children, who are gonna be without their father over some nonsense.
Makes no sense whatsoever,” Lattimore says.
Lattimore fought back tears as he wiped away blood from the spot where his son died early Saturday morning.
Police responded just before 5:00am to Julia Avenue off Statesville Road. Investigators are trying to figure out why the 30-year-old man, who shares the same name with his father, was gunned down and left to die at the entrance to a North Charlotte church.
Lattimore Jr.’s cousin told police she was talking on the phone with him around two this morning.
She says he stopped talking abruptly.
“Come to find out that someone was murdered right there. It’s just so sad,” said church member Jacqueline Lilly. Members at St. Paul Community Missionary Baptist were stunned it happened so close to their sanctuary. “God knows everything before we do and this one he couldnt save. I just hope his heart was in the right place,” she says.
Cassandra Moore’s husband called police when he saw Lattimore’s body lying by the street. “The first thought that went through my mind is that it was Dexter,” Moore says. She says recently thing were going well for him. “He had just gotten a promotion. He was happy about that,” she says.
