Β Panthers fans were in for a real shocker today: news that the Panthers are actualy looking to trade Steve Smith. Β Although we got a hint that it was at least possible a week or so ago. Β Steve has two more seasons on contract, but as of today, that may not matter.
In recent weeks, general manager Dave Gettleman has been talking in terms that sent up a few smoke signals. Β For one, he was quoted saying, “none of us are here forever” when talking about Smith. Β And he used past tense when saying that Smith has “had” a great career. Β And much of that talk happened while Steve was out of town, which is not usually how it’s don’t in negotiations. Β
