Police: Suspect Committed Suicide After Fatally Shooting Officer, K9

MORGANTON, N.C. — Officials say an autopsy has revealed the man accused of killing his father and step-mother then killing an officer and his K9, died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Initial reports claim the suspect, Troy Whisnant, was shot and killed by officers after an exchange of gunfire.  However, an autopsy says Whisnant fatally shot himself in the head.  The autopsy also revealed that he was struck by a bullet from an officer’s gun but it was not the fatal shot.

Investigators say Jason Crisp and his K-9 partner Maros were killed last Wednesday by Whisnant.  He was on the run after police say the man killed his father and stepmother in Burke County.
