Prevention is the Cure 5K

Margaret Prochaska and Emily Fasth, students involved in Myers Park High School‘s DECA club, have partnered with the Center for Prevention Services to spread the word about teenage alcohol and drug abuse. Charlotte has had an increase in heroin and black tar usage over the past few years. The 5K hopes to raise $2,000 to help the Center for Prevention Services raise awareness about how to prevent alcohol and drug abuse. The 5K will be held on March 29, 2014 at Myers Park High School‘s cross country course. Runners can register before March 29 using www.runsignup.com for $25, or runners can sign-up the day of the race for $35. The Center for Prevention Services believes “It‘s easier to prevent than it is to cure,” drug abuse. The agency will use the money to fund seminars teaching students the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse.
