A break in NCAA play for the men…Shockers end great season…Sixers looking for a win, badly

UNDATED (AP) — Play in the regional semifinals will start Thursday in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Games on Thursday will take place in Memphis and Anaheim with more games on Friday in New York and Indianapolis.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The previously unbeaten Wichita State Shockers will not be heading to the Regional semifinals. They suffered their lone loss of the season yesterday when they were stopped by Kentucky 78-76 in St. Louis. It was quite a run for the Shockers who end the season 35-1.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The fact of the matter is the Philadelphia 76ers have lost 24 straight games. It is also a fact that the league record for consecutive losses in 26. Tonight, the Sixers will attempt once again to get in the win column when they face the Southwest Division leading Spurs in San Antonio.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The NFL spring meetings are taking place this week in Orlando, Fla., and the league owners are considering several possible rules changes. In fact they will consider 13 playing rules proposals and seven bylaws. They will also discuss the possibility of expanding the playoff field from 12 to 14 teams.

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Contract talks between the Detroit Tigers and reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer have broken off. The two sides were trying to work out an extension, but the club says Scherzer rejected its latest offer and that talks are off until after the season.
