Beijing, China – The pain was too much to bear for some, as officials told the families of those aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 their loved ones were likely dead.
While the news was not entirely unexpected, the news was clearly devastating for the families. But without hard evidence many refuse to believe their relatives are really dead.
It was a rare sight in China as family members demonstrated on the streets of Beijing and marched toward the Malaysian Embassy. Shouting and holding signs saying they want their sons and daughters back, they are demanding answers.
Stormy weather caused officials to suspend efforts to find debris from the flight and operations aren’t likely to start for 24 hours.
Malaysia Airlines announced it’s giving $5,000 to the families of each passenger. Under international treaty, the airline must pay relatives of each deceased passenger an initial sum of around $150,000 to $175,000.
