SALISBURY, N.C. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting on N. Arlington Street at the China Buffet restaurant. According to Salibury Police Department, they received a call around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday in regards to shots being fired from inside the China Buffet restaurant. When officers arrived, they found a black male, who was wearing a mask over his face and who was carrying a shotgun, had entered the restaurant and was attempting to rob it.
An off-duty Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy, who had been dining in the restaurant, confronted the robbery suspect. At some point during the encounter, the situation reached a point in which the deputy fired upon the suspect who was struck in the upper torso. He died as a result of his injuries.
The State Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene to investigate. This is standard in any officer-involved shooting.
The name of the suspect has not been released at this time.
