The QC Scene: Walk to Cure Diabetes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Type 1 Diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes.  Only 5% of people diagnosed with diabetes have type 1.

In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin.  Insulin is a hormone needed to convert sugar, starches and other foods into energy needed for daily life.  With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, people of all ages can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.

Neel Jadeja has been an integral part of the Charlotte music scene for 20 years.  Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over 3 years ago, he has become a major player in spreading the word about the disease and aid in fundraising for a cure.
