Suspect Dead After SWAT Standoff

Β CHARLOTTE, N.C.- A suspect is dead after opening fire on authorities in Lincolnton Friday morning. Β 

Β  Β  It all started after a Lincolnton Police DepartmentΒ Sergeant responded to 876 Salem Church Road just after 6pm Thursday, where a deceasedΒ female was found. Authorities have ruled that death a homicide.

Β  Β  Two detectives responded to Colonial Village Apartments to speak with the female’sΒ estranged husband. When the Detectives arrived they observed whom they believed to beΒ the victim’s estranged husband driving a gray truck circling the apartment complex.

Β  Β  Β  Authorities say the gray truck pulled into a parking place, but when the officer asked the individual to showΒ his hands, the suspect pulled out a semi-auto handgun and fired at the officer.Β Β The officer returnedΒ fire. Neither the suspect nor the officer was injured.

Β  Β Authorities then say the individual entered an apartment in the Lantern Ridge Apartments.Β Officers established a perimeter around the apartment and requested the assistance of theΒ Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.

Β  Β  Shortly after 12:30am Friday morning, shots were exchanged again andΒ the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.Β 

Β  Β  The Lincolnton PoliceΒ Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office have requested the State Bureau ofΒ Investigation to look into the shooting at Lantern Ridge Apartments

Β  Β  Β The Lincolnton Police Department is not releasing the names of the deceased individualsΒ at this time.Β
