Sherills Ford Man Faces Several Charges After Dragging Officer With Car

LINCOLNTON,NC–Police arrested a Sherills Ford, NC man for felony assault on an officer Tuesday.

Reports say the officer noticed a car that failed to stop at a red light, after following the vehicle to a dead end the officer approached the car and noticed a smell of alcohol.

After the driver refused to exit the vehicle the officer tried to open the door through the cracked window, the suspect then slammed the door shut and proceded to drag the officer 40 feet, after striking the driver several times and pulling a taser the suspect stopped the vehicle and was pulled out of the car by officers.

The driver reportedly spit on officers, refused treatment from EMS and refused to provide a breath sample.

Jake Ellis Nelson, 20, was arrested and charged with one count of felony assault on officer, assault with a deadly weapon on law enforcement, malicious conduct by a prisoner in addition to misdemeanor counts of failure to stop at red light, failure to stop for blue lights, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of open container, driving while impaired and driving after consuming a sufficient amount of alcohol.
