CHARLOTTE, NC — Inspiring words from a newly named Teacher of the Year. James Ford is the first CMS teacher to receive the prestigious Burroughs Wellcome Award in 40 years. The Garinger High history teacher says teaching is a passion.
“When it comes to the realm of teaching… when I stand in before students, I am not a teacher by default. I am not a teacher because I did not have anything better to do. I am a teacher because I could not think of anything better to do than to actually teach.”
Ford gets more than just bragging rights, and will serve as a statewide ambassador for education. A $7,500 cash prize and a lease car are a few of the other perks.
