Man on the Edge: Don’t Drink the Water!

This video is no longer available.

It happened again.  This is the third time in recent months that someone has dumped chemical waste into Charlotte’s water system.  The utilities people can’t tell it’s happened until the stuff makes it to the treatment centers where they’re always testing for exactly this kind of thing.  And then telling us how safe the tapwater is.

They don’t know exactly when this last dump happened, but it was sometime between September and March.  And they’re getting real about finding out who did it.  There’s now a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.  And officials are stressing that anything coming out of your faucet is safe.

But the chemical dumps are the only water worries we’ve had lately.  Duke Energy is in the middle of a coal ash cleanup, and by that, we mean cleaning up their image, not the actual water.  And a recent plan to move some coal ash storage around the area freaked people out.

Local authorities promise that there’s nothing wrong with the water in the tap, and yet they can’t seem to stop people from tampering with the supply.  So we hit the streets to find out if you trust what’s coming from the tap…
