The unbeaten Connecticut Huskies try to finish with their 40th victory when they take on 37-0 Notre Dame in the first women’s championship pitting two unbeaten teams. The Huskies will try for a double title for the first time since the UConn men’s and women’s teams won it all in 2004.
UNDATED (AP)— Former NBA player and coach Michael Curry has been hired as the men’s basketball coach at Florida Atlantic, replacing Mike Jarvis. Curry coached the Detroit Pistons and took them to the playoffs in the 2008-09 season, plus has been an assistant in both Detroit and Philadelphia.
NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Jeter walked off the field a winner in his final home opener as New York beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-2. Jeter doubled high off the left-field wall and scored on Jacoby Ellsbury’s single in the fifth and was cheered every step of the way by an adoring crowd of 48,142 in the Yankees’ 112th opener in New York.
BOSTON (AP)— The Boston Red Sox rapped out 14 hits in bouncing Texas 5-1 last night to end a three-game losing streak. John Lackey improved to 2-0 by holding the Rangers to one unearned run and five hits in his seven innings.
