NASVHILLE, Tenn. (AP)— The NCAA women’s title game matches a pair of unbeaten teams for the first time. Connecticut carries a 39-0 mark into Tuesday night’s championship game against 37-0 Notre Dame. The Huskies will try for a double title for the first time since the UConn men’s and women’s teams won it all in 2004.
NEW YORK (AP) — Steve Masiello will be reinstated as the head coach at Manhattan College as soon as he receives his degree from the University of Kentucky. His lack of degree came to light during the NCAA tournament. Manhattan requires its coaches to have degrees.
ST. LOUIS (AP)— The St. Louis Cardinals captured their home opener with a 5-3 win over Cincinnati behind a three-run first-inning double by Yadier Molina (YAH’-dee-eer moh-LEE’-nah). The game drew standing room attendance of 47,492, the largest crowd at 9-year-old Busch Stadium.
NEW YORK (AP)— Derek Jeter doubled high off the left-field wall and scored on Jacoby Ellsbury’s first hit in pinstripes in the fifth inning of the Yankees’ 4-2 win over Baltimore in Jeter’s final home opener as an active player. Hiroki Kuroda (hih-ROH’-kee kuh-ROH’-duh) pitched 6 1-3 sharp innings in the Yankees’ 112th opener in New York.
