Wednesday, City Council will swear in Dan Clodfelter as mayor. The state senator resigned from Raleigh today. It’s the last thing he has to do before taking the mayor title. Of course, it wouldn’t be politics without a little drama. Monday night’s decision only took thirty minutes. A motion to appoint former city councilman James Mitchell failed by only three votes, and he spoke to WCCB today about his faith in Clodfelter’s leadership.
“I do think he combines both city and the state understanding,” said Mitchell. “He can help us with relationships we need to have in the governor’s office, so I do think he’d bring a different element that was missing, these relationships on the state level.”
So we know what city leaders would do, but what about you? It’s our Edge Question of the Night: If you were Charlotte’s new mayor, what would you fix first?
