FORT HOOD, TX — Three pair of empty boots serve as a silent tribute to the soldiers killed in a shooting spree at Fort Hood. President Obama and the First Lady joined the grieving families Wednesday for a special service. The scene was similar to a memorial held following a mass shooting at the same base in 2009.
“They were taken from us much too soon,” said President Obama. “Like the 13 Americans we lost five years ago, their passing shakes our soul.”
Investigators say Specialist Ivan Lopez shot and killed the three soldiers and wounded 16 others before killing himself last week. Two of the wounded remain in the hospital, listed in fair condition.
