Suspect Sought After Shooting at Belmont Walmart

BELMONT, N.C. — Belmont Police say they have two suspects in custody and are searching for one more after a jewelry deal went wrong.

Authorities were called to the Walmart parking lot around 3:53 p.m. on Hawley Avenue in regards to a shots fired call. When officials arrived on scene, they encountered a man armed with a gun. He was immediately taken into custody.

The person taken into custody indicated that he was at Walmart to sell some jewelry. Sometime during the transaction the seller indicated that the buyer tried to steal the jewelry before leaving the scene in a Jeep.The seller said that he fired shots into the vehicle as it left the scene. It is not know if anyone was hit during the gun fire.

Officers set up a perimeter and were able to arrest an occupant of the Jeep on the grounds of Holy Angels. Police are now looking for the driver of the Jeep.
