The Charlotte Knights’ new stadium at BB&T Ballpark isn’t the only thing new in baseball this year. There’s a couple of rule changes in the pros. The first thing is the expansion of instant replay. The rules spell out what kind of play can be challenged and reviewed on instant replay, who can call for them and how, along with the process of the review. Every team agreed to it, but there’s still some awkwardness putting it into play.
The other new thing this year is the bylaw that limits collisions at home plate. But this one has been tricky. Teams and umpires have been having a tough time agreeing on what constitutes an infraction. In fact, some are saying the language is still way too vague for it to make any real difference in the game. But of course, the goal is to limit injuries.
