ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Adrian Beltre was hoping to get back in the lineup for Texas Rangers this week before being told he was going on the disabled list because of a strained left quadriceps.
Beltre said Monday that he didn’t agree with the team putting him on the disabled list a day earlier. The third baseman says he had no say in the decision, but also acknowledged it was probably a smart move.
He says he was ready to play Tuesday, a week after coming out of a game at Boston and returning home for an evaluation.
The DL move was retroactive to last Wednesday. The earliest he will be eligible to be activated is April 24, an off day for the Rangers.
Beltre managed hamstring issues while playing 161 games last season.
