BOBCATS-HAWKS

Douglas-Roberts lefts Bobcats past Hawks 95-93

ATLANTA (AP) โ€” Chris Douglas-Roberts dribbled into the lane and sank a short jumper as time expired, and the Charlotte Bobcats overcame a 15-point deficit in the final period to beat the Atlanta Hawks 95-93 on Monday night.

Al Jefferson had 27 points and 15 rebounds for Charlotte, which remained one game behind Washington in the race for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Gary Neal had 17.

Jefferson’s turnaround jumper gave the Bobcats a 93-91 lead before Lou Williams answered with a tying jumper for Atlanta with 2.6 seconds remaining.

Following a timeout, Douglas-Roberts penetrated and lobbed the soft jumper as the buzzer sounded.

The Hawks rested starters Kyle Korver, Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll. Mike Scott led Atlanta with 20 points. Shelvin Mack and Williams each had 13.

CLEMSON-KELLY

Clemson dismisses QB Kelly after sideline argument

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) โ€” Clemson quarterback Chad Kelly has been dismissed from the team two days after he was benched for the second half of the spring game for disagreeing with coaches over whether to go for it on fourth down.

Coach Dabo Swinney said Monday that Kelly was kicked off the team for conduct detrimental to the program. Swinney says Kelly had a pattern of poor behavior. Swinney’s statement did not give any details, but did wish Kelly well.

Kelly is the nephew of Buffalo Bills star Jim Kelly. The sophomore was expected to compete with senior Cole Stoudt and freshman Deshaun Watson to replace Tajh Boyd behind center this fall.

Kelly played in five games in 2013, completing 10 of 17 passes for 58 yards and running 16 times for 117 yards.

CAROLINA-CLEMSON QUARTERBACKS

Shaw, Boyd yards apart, this time in shopping mall

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) โ€” It was like Carolina-Clemson in April when hundreds of fans lined up to get autographs from the former quarterbacks for the South Carolina Gamecock and Clemson Tiger football teams at a Myrtle Beach mall.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/1sZSuUl) both Clemson’s Tajh Boyd and USC’s Conner Shaw were at the Coastal Grand Mall signing autographs Sunday.

The two NFL draft hopefuls were about 100 yards apart for simultaneous signings at two different stores in the mall. South Carolina fans filled half of the mall while those dressed in Clemson orange gathered at the other end to welcome Boyd.

Boyd called Myrtle Beach his favorite city. Shaw said he had not been to Myrtle Beach in a while and it was good to meet the fans one-on-one.

DUKE-PARKER

Duke’s Parker to decide Wednesday on going pro

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) โ€” Jabari Parker says he plans to “set up an appointment” with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski when he returns to Durham, N.C., on Tuesday and he will decide Wednesday whether to declare for the NBA draft or return to college for his sophomore year.

Parker was in Oklahoma City to accept the Wayman Tisdale Award as college basketball’s top freshman. He says his decision will be based on where he can grow the most.

Parker says he’ll talk with Coach K and “lay out my options, but I’m just really glad I get the best of both worlds.”

Parker was the highest-scoring freshman in Duke history (19.1 per game) and is the first freshman to lead the Blue Devils in scoring and rebounding.

Haas plans to field Formula 1 team in next 2 years

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) โ€” NASCAR team owner Gene Haas says he plans to field an American-based Formula One racing series team within the next two years.

The team will be called Haas Formula, he said Monday at a news conference.

Haas says he should know within the next four weeks if the team will begin racing in 2015 or wait until 2016. He says part of that depends on how long it takes for Haas Formula to find an engine supplier.

Haas Formula would be become the first American-based Formula One team in more than three decades to join the racing series.

Although there’s plenty of skepticism over his decision, Haas says “I wouldn’t be doing it if I thought I was going to fail. But that’s the challenge โ€” proving other people wrong.”
