LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Clippers have a chance to improve their playoff positioning when travel to Portland for their regular season finale tonight. But they’ll have to do it without their leading scorer. Blake Griffin picked up his 16th technical foul of the season in last night’s win over Denver, triggering a league-mandated one-game suspension. Griffin hit the Nuggets’ Timofey Mozgov in the head while reaching for the ball. The league could rescind the foul, but the Clippers are leaving Griffin home to rest anyway, along with J.J. Redick.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The Players Championship is changing its playoff format. PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem says it will be a three-hole aggregate playoff starting on the 16th, 17th and 18th holes this year. If players remain tied after three holes, it would go to sudden death starting on the par-3 17th, famous for its island green. The Players Championship is the only regular PGA Tour event to use a playoff format that is not sudden death.
