CHARLOTTE, NC — WCCB Charlotte’s cameras caught a former teacher charged with sex crimes bonding out of jail tonight.
Caron blanton is accused of sending inappropriate videos and obscene pictures of herself to at least two students.
The investigation started last week when administrators at Burns Middle School in Cleveland County found that a male student had been sent inappropriate video through his cell phone by a female teacher. They confiscated that young man’s phone. That brought out investigators from the sheriff’s department.
They later learned that another male student had also received inappropriate videos and pictures, leading to the charges that former teacher Caron Blanton faced Wednesday.
The school district suspended Blanton on Wednesday when they found out about the allegations, then accepted her resignation on Friday.
“You’ve got an adult, 25-30 year old person, having a relationship with a 15-16 year old kid. That’s ridiculous,” says Shelby resident Sam Davis.
Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman says the investigation is ongoing, and that there could be additional charges against Blanton at a later time.
It’s the kind of situation that is making news more frequently: teachers accused of crossing the line with their students, making questionable choices and poor decisions.
“For the teacher to have a crush on the student… the teacher should be able to draw that line, and make it a professional friendship instead of… more,” says Kings Mountain resident Austin Mullis.
Blanton is charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a child under the age of 16, and six counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor.
