CHARLOTTE, NC — We now have a better idea how the city of Charlotte will use a $3 million grant to fight terrorism. The money from the Department of Homeland Security is being gifted to the Charlotte Fire Department. The Queen City is one of 39 cities nationwide to get the grant money.
Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Dulin says the department plans to spend some of the money on training for active-shooter scenarios and new equipment. “That would be things like protective equipment for officers and firefighters that need to go into hostile environments. It might be for patient treatment capabilities, or it might just be for things that we need to plan for.”
The federal government created the grant after the 9/11 terror attacks.
