Police Say Man Exposed Himself At Local Businesses

LANCASTER, SC- Lancaster police say they’ve found the guy who’s been flashing women at local businesses.

The man was caught on camera, but is telling police he’s the wrong guy!

Thirty-year-old Jared Pawless showed up to the Lancaster Police Department Friday, hoping to clear things up.

Pawless was spotted on a surveillance camera at Murphy’s Express gas station on the Lancaster Bypass after a cashier says Pawless flashed her while making a purchase.

“A guy called us last night and said he was that guy and agreed to come down and talk to us,” said Lancaster Police Captain Scott Grant.

The man, who police say exposed himself at several businesses in Lancaster, called police and went in for questioning Friday after his mother called him and asked why police were looking for him.

“He’s admitted that he’s the guy in the video, but he hasn’t admitted anything else, in fact, he’s fairly emphatic that he did nothing wrong,” said Grant.

But police say otherwise. Pawless was booked friday and charged with two counts of indecent exposure.

One count for the flashing at the gas station in March. Captain Grant says Pawless also exposed himself to a woman in a shoe store parking lot in January.

Police also released a picture of Pawless’ Ford Mustang, which was spotted in the nearby Walmart parking lot a few months ago. Grant says Pawless may be connected to flashing there.

“That is just crazy! I can’t believe it’s happening around here,” said Trina Curry, a Lancaster resident.

While Pawless maintains his innocence, police say the gas station clerk picked him out of a six-person photo line-up — sure it was him who flashed her.

Lancaster police say there have been a string of flashings since January, but they don’t have enough evidence to tie Pawless to all those incidents.
