CHARLOTTE, NC — WCCB has surveillance video that shows a car-jacking in North Charlotte, and the suspect had a gun.
The crime happened in a crowded shopping center. One man says he came face to face with the suspect.
Just minutes before three o’clock this afternoon, a man pulled his vehicle into the Graham Point Shopping Center on North Graham Street. Surveillance video shows the suspect approaching the green Toyota Corolla. He speaks to the driver, then reaches for something tucked in his belt. Then there’s a flash as the window breaks.
The suspect took the car. Then you can see the victim walk into a nearby store.
Daniel Kim works at Jim’s Fish Market in the shopping center, and says he saw the suspect hanging around earlier in the day.
“He had come in for a split second. I thought it was really weird. He just left and never came back, until I ran into him later that day,” says Daniel Kim, who works in the shopping center.
Kim passed the suspect on the sidewalk just moments before the car-jacking and knew something was wrong.
“We made eye contact. But he just gave off a bad vibe,” continues Kim.
A woman who says she works with the victim talked to WCCB Charlotte.
“(Sighs)… Not Preston because he’s such a good guy. He has such crazy luck, but he’s such a wonderful guy,” says Tessima Guy. “He works really hard, and he just got his car back out of the shops.”
Police have not released the victim’s name. He wasn’t injured, but did lose his car. The brazen crime shook up this busy shopping stop. It’s a scene that’s becoming all too familiar.
“I just wish that this kind of stuff would stop, because people work too hard for what they have,” says Guy.
