LAWNDALE, NC — New technology may solve a nearly 21-year-old murder mystery in Cleveland County. Investigators exhumed Judy McMurry’s body Thursday at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Lawndale. They’re hoping DNA samples from her remains will lead them to her killer.
The sheriff says there’s a person of interest in the case, but will not release their identity. “What we want frist and foremost is closure for the family. The perpetrator brought to justice, and for it to act in a fast and swift manner,” said Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman.
McMurry worked at Penstar Mobile Home Sales on US-74. Her husband found her dead on April 26, 1993 when she didn’t come home from work.
