CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD’s efforts to keep drunk drivers off of local roads appear to be working.  The DWI task force reports three people died in crashes involving drunk drivers between January and March.  That’s down from seven during the same time last year.

A mother who lost her son in a DWI crash about 15 years ago is hoping that other families will be spared a similar loss.  “We’re trying to make the streets safe for our children,” said Linda Roberts.  “We’re trying to prevent anyone having to come to your door in the middle of the night to tell you that you lost a child.”

The six-member task force charged 332 people with impaired driving during the first quarter.
