MIAMI (AP) — Hall of Fame basketball coach Jack Ramsay has died after a long battle with cancer. Ramsay coached in the NBA for parts of 21 seasons and led the Portland Trail Blazers to the 1977 NBA championship before he became one of the NBA’s most respected broadcasters. His death was announced by ESPN. Ramsay was 89.
UNDATED (AP) — Adam Silver is the commissioner of the NBA and all eyes are on him, waiting to see what the league will do to Clippers owner Donald Sterling, if it can be proved that it was Sterling’s voice on that racially charged recording. Amid the uproar over the remarks attributed to Sterling, the Clippers lost to the Warriors yesterday. The next game in their playoff series is set for tomorrow night in L.A.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Miami Heat will attempt to finish off the Charlotte Bobcats this evening. The defending NBA champs top the best-of-seven series 3-0 with tonight’s game in Charlotte.
UNDATED (AP) — Three teams can clinch a first-round NHL playoff series this evening. Those teams are the Penguins, Sharks and Avalanche. Pittsburgh leads Columbus 3-2 with tonight’s game in Columbus, Colorado tops Minnesota 3-2 with this evening’s contest in Saint Paul and San Jose is visiting Los Angeles with a 3-2 lead as well.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The rain-delayed IndyCar race in Birmingham, Ala, was won by Ryan Hunter-Reay. The defending winner of the race finished in front of Marco Andretti and Scott Dixon.
