MLB-SCHEDULE

Wainwright goes for No. 6

UNDATED (AP) — In the lone day game in baseball, the Cubs are hosting the St. Louis Cardinals. Adam Wainwright of the Cards is looking for his sixth win of the season against one defeat. He starts the day with 42 strikeouts and an earned run average of 1.20. Wainwright is facing Travis Wood, a winner of one game against three defeats.

The longest losing streak in baseball is held by Cleveland as the Indians have dropped six in a row. Tonight they open up a home stand with a game against Central Division rival Chicago. Each team sports a losing record.

The longest current winning streak is three, as held by four teams: the Athletics, Angels, Marlins and Dodgers. This evening two of those teams are squaring off in Miami as the Marlins entertain the Dodgers. The Athletics are in Boston tonight while the Angels are hosting the Rangers.

The rest of the schedule has Tampa Bay in New York facing the Yankees, the Pirates home to the Blue Jays, Washington at Philadelphia, the Braves entertaining the Giants, Baltimore at Minnesota, the Royals home to the Tigers, Seattle at Houston, the Mets playing in Denver and the Padres playing host to the Diamondbacks.

NBA PLAYOFFS-SCHEDULE

Three teams look to advance

UNDATED (AP) — The Raptors, Spurs and Blazers can all advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs with wins tonight. The Raptors top the Nets 3-2 and this evening’s sixth game is being played in New York. If the home team wins, a seventh and deciding game will be played Sunday in Toronto.

The Spurs and Mavericks are back on the court tonight in Dallas with San Antonio leading the series 3-2. If the Mavs walk off the floor with a win they would force a seventh game Sunday in the Alamo City.

And in the final game of the night the Blazers can finish off the Houston Rockets with a win in front of their own fans. If the Rockets prevail the final game of the series would be Sunday in Houston.

NHL PLAYOFFS-SCHEDULE

Penguins and Blackhawks host second round games

UNDATED (AP) — The opening games in two NHL second-round playoff series are being played tonight in Pittsburgh and Chicago.

In the Steel City the Penguins are hosting the New York Rangers in their first game. The Pens advanced with a 4-2 series win over the Blue Jackets while the Rangers eliminated the Flyers in seven games.

In Chicago tonight the Blackhawks and Wild kick off their best-of-seven series. The visiting Wild advanced with a 4-3 series win over the Avalanche while the Blackhawks knocked off the Blues in six games.

The second game in each series will be played on Sunday once again in Pittsburgh and Chicago.

PGA-WELLS FARGO

Flores jumps in front

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Martin Flores has taken the early second-round lead at the PGA’s Wells Fargo Championship. He is 2-under for the day after 11 holes and 7-under for the tournament, one shot in front of Justin Rose who is 3-under for the day after eight holes. First round leader Angel (AHN’-hehl) Cabrera starts later in the day.

LPGA-NORTH TEXAS

Early round scores

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Suzann Pettersen (PEHT’-ur-suhn) and Dori Carter share the lead in the early going of the second round of the LPGA’s North Texas Shootout. Each stands 5 under par, Pettersen after four holes and Carter after one. Cristie Kerr has played four holes and is even par for the day and 4-under for the tournament.

CHAMPIONS TOUR

Toledo looks to repeat

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) — The opening round of the Champions Tour event in The Woodlands, Texas, the Insperity Invitational, is being played today. The defending champion is Esteban Toledo (EHS’-teh-bahn toh-LAY’-doh), who led wire-to-wire for a two-stroke victory over Bernhard Langer.

The tour has next week off before resuming May 15-18 with the Regions Tradition at Shoal Creek in Alabama.
