CHARLOTTE, NC – “I saw him come down the street. But I (didn’t have any) idea that he was like that,” says West Charlotte resident Rickey Toney.
Toney says he saw rape suspect Eddie Stokley pass by his house Saturday afternoon, just hours before police say the man cut off his ankle monitor.
“So I was thinking he was coming to visit a friend, down here at the end of the dead end,” Toney says.

That’s where neighbors say cops showed up late in the night, looking for the bracelet in the woods behind a home on Bethel Road – off West Boulevard. People living there say they don’t know Stokley – who has a long arrest record.
Β
He’s listed as facing several charges including 1st degree kidnapping, 1st degree rape, and three counts statutory rape of a minor six years or older.

Neighbors say it’s troubling to know he was in an area with so many kids. They also want to know why Stokley was out on pre-trial release.
