The Heat got this far with a four-game sweep of the Bobcats while the Nets eliminated the Raptors in seven games. Portland earned its spot in the Western semifinals by stopping the Rockets in six games while the Spurs, who are the top seed in the playoffs, beat the Mavericks in seven games.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Kings won the first two games of their Stanley Cup playoff with the Ducks in Anaheim, California. Last night L.A. skated off the ice with a 3-1 win as goalie Jonathan Quick made 15 of his 36 saves in the final period. Games 3 and 4 will be played on the Kings’ home ice with the next game set for Thursday night.

The existing world record was 4:01.04, but on this day, 54 years ago in Oxford, England, Britain’s Roger Bannister proved the skeptics wrong as he ran the mile in 3 minutes, 59.4 seconds. The current world record was set in 1999 at 3:43.13.
