PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Martin Kaymer (KY’-mur) was the winner of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, finishing one stroke ahead of a late-charging Jim Furyk (FYOOR’-ihk). Kaymer sank a 30-foot par putt on 17 to maintain the lead and close with a 1-under 71 for a 13-under total. Furyk shot a 66 and was runner-up for the second straight week.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The New York Yankees have placed pitcher CC Sabathia (sah-BATH’-ee-uh) on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right knee. The move comes a day after the left-hander allowed three home runs in a no-decision against the Brewers. Hitters this season are batting .301 against Sabathia, who’s 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA.
UNDATED (AP) — Manchester City has won the Premier League championship for the second time in three years, finishing two points ahead of Liverpool. The Sky Blues clinched on the final day of the season, defeating West Ham 2-0 on goals by Samir Nasri (sah-MEER’ NAHZ’-ree) and Vincent Kompany. Manchester City needed only a tie to wrap up the title.
