IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A fatal crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Monday in the rest area on I-77 South at mile marker 38.
Newton Trooper Williamson says there is no appearance of breaking or skid marks on the road. The driver was driving a Volkswagon Crossover.
A witness said he heard the wreck and believes a car going at high speed slammed into a parked truck.
The rest stop between Mooresville and Troutman was closed off shortly after the accident.
An autopsy has not yet released the driver’s cause of death. The name of the driver is not being released until their family has been notified.
