SHELBY, NC – The father of a 17-year-old murder victim says the suspect should have been in jail. Guy Bickley says family tried for months to break up his daughter Hanna and her boyfriend Aaron Byers.

“It was senseless. I mean she was 17 years old. And she’s gone. Senseless stupidity,” Bickley says.
According to Shelby Police, Hanna Bickley was accidently shot inside a car on Holder Drive around 2 am Saturday. Byers originally told investigators he and Bickley were the victims of a robbery and that a stranger shot her. He later changed his story.
The 19-year-old is a convicted felon, who was out of jail on probation for several breaking and entering cases. Hanna Bickley also had an arrest record for drugs and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Bickley says his daughter had dropped out of school but returned, hoping to become a nurse.
“Sometimes it’s hard to believe that she’s gone. And I’m not going to be able to hug her, grab her, hug her, love her,” he says.
