HICKORY, N.C. — The body of a Lenoir-Rhyne student was recovered from the water at Geitner-Rotary Park on Monday.
Hickory Fire Department says they were called to the park around 5:30 p.m. in regards to a possible drowning. When officials arrived on scene, friends of 19-year-old Vince Njoku told authorities they were swimming in the lake when he went missing.
Search and dive team crews searched the water for Njoku. His body was recovered just before 7 p.m.
Campus officials say the freshman student was from Woodstock, Georgia. He was a computer science major.
