Β After a tear-filled telephone conversation in which he learned he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, Michael Sam laid a couple on his boyfriend, which was not entirely expected, if the social media buzz is any indication. Β While there was support, there was also a lot of backlash. Β Which makes us wonder if everybody is really ready for this.
Sam once said he didn’t want to be known as the “gay football player”, but just “a football player”. Β But it was once again the focus last night. Β After his emotional embrace, the tweets started flying, some positive, some negative. Β But the fact that we’ve known Sam was getting drafted, and it still led to such disruption, makes us wonder just how ready we are for a gay football player.
