CHARLOTTE, NC – One man may be targeting a South Charlotte neighborhood. From breaking into homes, to attempted burglaries–even peeping on residents.
Monday night, CMPD told Madison Park residents at their monthly meeting they are stepping up patrols.
The latest crimes happened Monday afternoon when police say a man came home from lunch and found his window shattered and home broken into. Two other attempted break-ins were also reported Monday.
The suspicous acitivity started last week.
“All these police just walking down the sidewalk,” said Shelby Warren, a Madison Park resident.
Warren looked out her window Friday and saw about six police officers, a K-9 unit, and a helicopter flying over her house.
“So I just went out and said, ‘Should I be worried?'” said Warren.
Turns out, someone called police reporting a man around their home looking into their window. It was the second report in a week.
“You don’t know if their looking for people or things to take,” said Russell Hodge, a Madison Park resident.
“It doesn’t matter which one! Both are in your personal space and they’re in your neighborhood. We got small kids!” said Alan Wooten, a Madison Park resident.
Police believe the same suspect broke into the sunroom of a home on Murrayhill Road and was watching the homeowner.
A K-9 tracked the guy, but lost him.
“You never want uninvited guests coming by,” said Hodge.
“Not only as a homeowner, but as a private citizen, you don’t want anybody invading your privacy. I sure don’t!” said Walter Kurtz, a Madison Park resident.
Now families like the Wootens, who typically feel safe, say they’re on alert.
“Lock your door a little more or look out your door a little more. Everyone is more vigilant,” said Wooten
Police do not have a good description of the suspect, but all indications are that it’s the same guy. They’re asking anyone who may have seen him to call 911.
