Troopers Say Woman Jumped from Car During Chase

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman has serious injuries after police say she jumped from a vehicle following a chase in northwest Charlotte.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, troopers saw a stolen car going at a high rate of speed on Interstate 85 near Little Rock Road. Authorities say they were trying to stop the car when the driver, 27-year-old Willie Wright, slowed down and a female passenger jumped out of  vehicle.

The woman was then hit by the car she jumped out of. Medic transported the female victim to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say Wright continued driving onto Interstate 485 and exited off of Brookshire Boulevard where he crashed the vehicle. He was immediately taken into custody. Authorities believe the suspect and the female victim knew each other. Troopers say it appeared the suspect was under the influence.

There is no word on charges at this time.
