SALISBURY, N.C. — Brian Cooper, 49, was arrested around 9 p.m. Tuesday after allegedly raping a Century 21 Agent while she was showing him a home.
Cooper is charged with one count of attempted first degree rape, two counts of first degree assault and one count of first degree kidnapping.
Cooper was arrested at his residence at 112 Jack St. Granite Quarry and is being held at the Rowan County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 bond. His first appearance in court will be Thursday, May 15.
On Tuesday, an agent for Century 21 Towne and Country Realty, had an appointment to show Cooper a house. She first spoke with him on Monday when he expressed interest in buying a house.
Cooper met the agent at her office at 10 a.m. Tuesday when they drove together to view a home at 1614 Secret Garden Ct. After going inside, Cooper started choking the agent and threatened her with a knife. He told her if she did not do what he said that he would kill her and he sexually assaulted her.
Cooper told her to show him another home that he was scheduled to see that day. She called her office after telling Cooper if she didn’t, they would suspect something was wrong. When she called to get the information for the next home, she used a “code word,” that was predetermined to say in the case of distress.
When Cooper and the victim arrived at the next home, he repeated the assault. A company agent arrived and knocked, not aware of what was happening, and the victim left the residence to call police.
Cooper rode back with the other agent. The suspect had already left the business when police arrived. He was later arrested at his home.
