CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department’s Westover Division is stepping up patrols in the Madison Park neighborhood this week.

A CMPD crime map shows eight burglaries occurred between 1am and 10pm on Monday. They happened on Murrayhill Road and Wedgewood Drive.

“What is going on? I don’t understand, is it a group, is it a gang?” said an un-named Madison Park resident.

Lots of questions and growing concern from families in the South Charlotte neighborhood.

“My major concern is that we’ve got repeat offenders who might be running around doing the same things,” said Russell Hodge, a Madison Park resdient.

Residents say police presence is all too familiar the past few days as the search for suspects continues.

“Obviously they are targeting people. They’re casing them out, following them, looking for their habits, and how they move from their homes and travel,” said Robert Butler.

The latest burglaries come days after reports of a man walking around homes and looking into windows on Murrayhill Road.

The reports prompted a helicopter and K-9 search Friday, but police say it’s usually a crime-free area.

“Now this, targeting us and being in this area around here, it’s definitely a wake up call for people now,” said Butler.

Butler has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years. Now, with the string of crimes, he says his focus is protecting his family and belongings.

“I’ll just do a little property inspection before I go to sleep, just to make sure there’s nothing missing, and to check if anyone’s lurking around somewhere.”

Police are encouraging neighbors to call 911 if they see anything suspicious. One call Tuesday led officers to a kid skipping school.
