Pedestrian Hit And Killed While Crossing University City Boulevard

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have identified the pedestrian that was struck and killed just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday night as 60-year-old Lee Taylor Feaster.

Rena Laton was driving inbound on University City Boulevard when the man crossed the street and was hit by Laton’s 2004 Honda CRV.

Another driver saw the pedestrian crossing the road just before the incident, and swerved to avoid hitting him.

The man was not walking in a marked crosswalk and lack of streetlights made it hard to see at the time of the accident.

CMPD responded to a call for service of a pedestrian being struck at 11:34 and found the man in the median upon arrival. Medic pronounced the man dead at 11:42 when they arrived on scene.

Speed and alcohol use have been ruled out as contributing factors on part of the driver. Laton currently has not been charged.

The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the crash Friday and it is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective R.C. Gormican at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
