ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) β The Tewaaraton (day-wah-ALLAH-DOON) Award, the Heisman Trophy of lacrosse, will be awarded next week at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., and Miles and Lyle Thompson of the Albany Great Danes are among the five finalists for the men’s hardware.
Since the award’s inception in 2001, no Native American has won it, and the Thompsons, born on a Mohawk Indian reservation in northern New York, would relish a breakthrough because it would be something very special.
Miles led the nation with a record-tying 82 goals and Lyle set a Division I record with 128 points on 51 goals and a record-tying 77 assists.
Albany coach Scott Marr says he’d love to see the brothers share the award.
