Hickory Suspects Caught After After Shots Fired At Officers

 HICKORY, N.C. — Erin Shell and Brandon Smith are being interviewed by officials after a vehicle was stolen and Smith fired shots at officers Tuesday night. 

Police responded to around 9 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call about a stolen Jeep Cherokee from the Raceway Gas Station at 1230 HWY 321 NW.

The victim said there was a Springfield Arms 9mm on the console inside the Jeep.

Video Surveillance showed Shell and Smith enter the parking lot in a Silver Ford Expedition before Smith pulled off in the Jeep.

Officers found the SUV after getting a call about a running Jeep in the woods without a passenger.

Police attempted to perform a K9 track to locate the suspects before multiple shots were fired.

Special Operations Team set up a perimeter around the area that remained in place until Wednesday morning until Smith came out of the woods around 7 a.m. 

No word on charges.
